Press Release - Mass Pike Opens Logan Airport Extension

Boston, MA - The Central Artery/Tunnel Project celebrated the opening of the Massachusetts Turnpike (I90) Connector Friday, January 17, 2003. The ceremony was held in the tunnel section below the commuter rail tracks at South Station. The event started with a band playing patriotic songs and quickly moved along to our elected officials telling some of the history of how funding was approved for the project and of the great job done by all of the contractors working on the job.

City Lights Electrical Co., Inc. played an extensive role in this project. George Gram the Director of Intelligent Transportation Systems for Honeywell Technology Solutions Inc, stated " City Lights Electrical and all of it employees working on the project did a tremendous job". City Lights crews have worked with Honeywell installing and testing the brains of the project since early 1999. With the scheduled opening rapidly approaching additional work was added to our scope which was required for the opening. The additional work included carbon emission monitoring, saw-cutting over 13000 feet of roadway, the installation of roadway antenna wiring and the installation of multiple traffic loops. To meet this added demand City Lights moved quickly adding 60 additional men and purchasing special equipment to make the project move faster. Bob Dunbar the Field Engineer and Construction Manager states " City Lights Electrical's General Foreman Scott Benedict performed exceptionally well in a highly stressful, very demanding project which operated 24 hours a day 7 days a week" Bob also stated " Scott was an ambassador for City Lights Electrical who managed the crews very well meeting all of Honeywell's needs".

City Lights Electrical is proud to add this accomplishment to a growing list of milestones it has been apart of on the Central Artery/Tunnel Project including: The Ted Williams Tunnel (1995), The Broadway Bridge(1999), The Storrow Drive Bridge (1999) and now the Mass Pike (I90) Extension.
