Press Release - Central Artery Tunnel Opens
On Sunday, April 4, 2004, the Central Artery Tunnel Project also know as The Big Dig, completed one of its last and most complex traffic shifts. The Dewey Square Tunnel I90 Collector was opened to traffic and will temporarily handle all of the artery's south bound traffic. The traffic shift will allow the remaining portion of the Dewey Square Tunnel to be renovated to accommodate a total of five south bound lanes of traffic.

City Lights Electrical Co., Inc. installed over 125,000 feet of conduit, 950,000 feet of wire, power and lighting for two fan chambers, two utility rooms, tunnel lighting, two UPS systems, a generator, 20 traffic loop detectors, and 5,000 feet of roadway antenna wire. City Lights employees worked seven days a week since January 2004 to complete the task.

City Lights President, John Deady stated, "the completion of the work and opening of the tunnel could not have occurred without the tireless effort of our entire project work force." which included Joseph Callanan, Project Executive, Sean Brady, Senior Project Manager, Richard Mansfield, General Foreman, and Foremen James Barker, John Caruso, Mark Demariano, Terry Howard, Anthony Kraunelis, Jr., Pablo Marcs, Matt O’Brien, Gerry Quinn, Rob Silver, and Ted Spinale.
