Hurricane Gustav
Power Restoration
Baton Rouge, LA - Late
Saturday , on Labor Day weekend City Lights Electrical Co.,
Inc.,
based in Canton, MA, received a call from Entergy to mobilize crews in
anticipation of the pending arrival of Hurricane Gustav to
Louisiana. Entergy is the electrical utility that provides
power to Louisiana, Arkansas, Texas and Mississippi. 1.8
million people were without power immediately after the
hurricane. Within a few hours of receiving the call,
City Lights had dispatched over 100
workers and 50 vehicles. John Deady, City
Lights Electrical's President stated " The massive
mobilization effort to
get all the workers, trucks and equipment on the road
would not have been possible without the tremendous effort
put forth by City Lights Line Superintendant Tom Keough,
Warehouse Manager Scott Davidson and General Foremen
Mike Gray and Richard Bates."
The typical day for the
workers begins at 6:00 AM and does not end until 10:00 PM.
Meals are eaten on the run. Upon arrival
into an area no lodging is available. Many sleep in
churches or their trucks, going days without the
even taking a shower. Both the temperature and the
humidity are in the 90's. The work territories go
from downtown streets to back yards, swamps and rural
areas.
Maryanne Cataldo City Lights
Founder and CEO commented " We are very proud of our
100+ electrical lineman who are responsible for the
mammoth task of restoring power to the Louisiana
residents impacted by Hurricane Gustav." In addition to the
ongoing restoration work related, to Gustav City Lights
is under way mobilizing additional workers to Southern Texas
for Hurricane Ike."
